Excerpt from Diary Entry April 2010

Free birds, cat hair drifting, succulent rich coffee, pieces of melting snow here and there pushed into piles, the curtain in this room sifts the light peacefully against soft olive wall color, Nanny talks with a high melodious voice in her Spanish language, strung into the rhythm of song with lows and highs. My new niece coming over and talking about foods that she likes; “I like cabbage, do you like cabbage. My Papa bought strawberries, I do like them. Last night we made a pizza, with tomato and pepperoni.”

Sightseeing in Ottawa

Ottawa, the capital of Canada is a destination to put on your 'to see' list.  Sightseeing in Ottawa is an experience as monumental as the city itself. What you see also depends on when you arrive here as temperatures range from record highs such as 37.8 °C (100°F) recorded July 4, 1913, to record lows of -38.9 °C (-38 °F) recorded on December 29, 1933.

So if you arrive in summer or spring expect to see a capital city blooming in full color with gorgeous trees,  18^th century buildings and spacious, tidy suburbs. At winter snow covers the city in a display of magical and serene beauty. This season may afford you the chance to ice skate on the Rideau Canal Skateway which is the biggest skating rink in the world.

Ottawa is a city awash with fine dining, festivals, sporting events. It is the home of various prestigious national museums and galleries. The highlights of these are the National War Museum, The Canadian Museum of Civilization, the Museum of Nature, and The National Gallery. Points of interest in the city include; Parliament Hill; which offers guided tours of the Parliament in action, public programs and spectacles including the Changing of the Guard Ceremony and the Sound and Light Show. Public Monuments to see include the National War Memorial and the Terry Fox Statue. 

The public transit system operated by OC Transpo is second to none and can take you from east to west of the city in reasonable time. It helps to be bi-lingual as Ottawa is home to English and French speaking people.
